India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, Northwest Frontier (2810. P. Dillon. H.Ms, 81st, Regt.), minor contact marks, edge bruise, suspension loose, nearly very fine
Patrick Dillon was born at Longford, Ireland in 1844 and attested for the 81st (Loyal Lincoln Volunteers) Regiment of Foot on 7 December 1862. He saw almost three years' service at Gibraltar before being posted to India. Here the 81st Regiment was part of the Sittana Field Force which saw service in the Panjtar and Lower Sittana areas between April-May 1858. They fought in the Battle of Sittana on 4 May 1858 against a mixed force of local tribes and rebel Sepoys from the 55th Bengal Infantry. The British force under Major-General Sir Sydney Cotton caught the rebels in a crossfire before closing to engage them in hand-to-hand combat with the rebels defeated by the end of the engagement. Dillon was discharged at Portsea, Hampshire on 17 October 1873; sold together with copied research including medal rolls, service and discharge papers as well as typed research.
