(x) NGC XF45 | Charles I (1625-1649), Group II, Type 2a, Crown, 1632-1633, Tower (under King), (m.m.) • CAROLVS D.' G.' MAG.' BRIT.' FRA.' ET • HIB.' REX •:• smaller second horseman left, plume on headdress, sword over right shoulder, cross on housing, no ground line, rev. (m.m.) • CHRISTO •:• AVSPICE •:• REGNO •:• oval garnished shield over cross fourchée, dividing C-R above, 5h, m.m. harp [over rose over plume] / harp (Hawkins 2a; Francis 19a; FRC X*/XIV, lot 61; Brooker 246 same dies; Barr 392; North 2193; Spink 2755), radial striking softness through head dress and between ET HIB and after REX, a minor trace of doubling in BRIT, otherwise pleasingly cabinet toned, a wholesome very fine, with an excellent pedigree and laudatory qualities as a Murdoch plate coin, in NGC holder, graded XF45 (Cert. #2816137-001)

The Webb provenance attested at the Murdoch sale can now be removed from the provenance chain on account of that coin passing via the dealer Lincoln, to Henderson, whose collection was bequeathed to the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge in 1936. Manuscript no. 926 confirming this conclusively.
