Auction: 22105 - Spink Numismatic e-Circular 20 - The Wootton Collection of English Silver Coins - e-Auction
Lot: 2340
Charles II (1660-1685), Shilling, 1683, second laureate and draped bust right, rev. no stop after HIB, crowned shields cruciform, six strings to harp, edge obliquely milled, 5.66g, 6h (Bull 557 [R6]; ESC 1064; Spink 3375) well worn and polished, edges rounded from past mounting, struck details about good / fine, excessively rare, and one of the most sought after Shillings of the reign, perhaps only three or four examples extant
Provenance
D G Barney, Colyton (Devon), by private treaty, 5 July 1993
Bull does not give a number for the harp strings. Here the obverse clearly received more 'attention' than the reverse and so the details on the shields, including the harp strings, are clear.
