John Fleming King Lockhart was born at Hexham, Northumberland on 27 November 1881, the son of Anne and Colonel Lewis Lockhart of Sonniside Rigg, Hexham. Commissioned Second-Lieutenant in the Royal Horse Artillery on 20 May 1902, he was promoted Lieutenant by 1911. Entering the war in France with the rank of Captain in August 1915, he was further advanced Major and joined the Territorials before 1919, being awarded the D.S.O. whilst serving with them. He died on 1 July 1953; sold together with original documentation including four named and addressed Field Service Postcards, a group photo including the recipient and his original Commission document.
