Robert Charles Hodson, son of Charles William Hodson C.S.I. and Maria Hodson, was born in 1888 and educated at Malvern College before going up to King's College London to read Engineering. Travelling out to India in 1910 to take up a position as an Assistant Engineer on the East India Railway, he returned to the United Kingdom in 1915 and was commissioned into the 279th Railway Company Royal Engineers. Proceeding to the Front in April 1916, he was to be tragically killed in action just over a year later on 8 May 1917 and is interred at Nine Elms Military Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France. His Will left the significant sum of £2,000 to King's College London "For the Improvement of the Engineering Dept.".
