Joesph Kerr was born at Ashkirk, Roxburghshire in 1886, the son of Mary Kerr of Hundalee Farm Cottage, Jedburgh. Working as a Forester prior to enlistment at Hamilton he joined the Royal Scots on 9 January 1915 and was posted to the 13th battalion (Lothian Regiment), Royal Scots. Entering the war in France on 9 July 1915 with 'C' company, and saw service there at the Battle of Loos, later he was killed in action while the Battalion was in the line at Hulluch. Kerr is commemorated upon the Loos Memorial; sold together with copied newspaper articles and service records as well as M.I.C. and census data.
