Three: Private B. T. Davies, 1st/5th Battalion, Welsh Regiment, who died of wounds sustained in the wake of the Suvla Bay landings at Gallipoli

Benjamin Thomas Davies was born at Llanwonno, Glamorgan and enlisted for the Welsh Regiment at Pontypridd. At the start of the was the reservist Battalions of the Welsh Regiment were primarily involved in garrison duties however in April 1915 they were issued orders to prepare for action with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force. Joining the war with 1st/5th Battalion at Sulva Bay on 9 August 1915 when the Battalion disembarked at 'C' Beach, two days after it was seized by 32nd Brigade.

Landing early in the morning they advanced inland and arrived at Hill 10 at 08:30 and moved off towards Scimitar Hill. A confused day of fighting followed with the left half of the Battalion losing touch with the right, which was leading the Brigade's advance. They occupied the Turkish trenches north of Scimitar Hill and consolidated them. The days casualties amounted to 1 officer and 17 other ranks dead with 5 officers and 107 men wounded. Davies was one of the latter, suffering a severe enough injury that he died the next day on 10 August 1916, he is commemorated upon the Hellas Memorial; sold together with copied research including M.I.C., medal rolls and Commonwealth War Graves details as well as typed research and The Welch Regiment 1914-1918 relating to the Suvla Bay landings.
