William Frank Rooney was born in 1891 at Quantoxhead, Somerset and joined the Grenadier Guards on 18 January 1905. He served in France with the Grenadier Guards from 23 November 1914 (MIC refers), whilst he saw active service from 18 January 1915. In 1912 he was in the Defaulter's Book for gambling in the canteen and was given 35 days field punishment for damaging the property of a Frenchman on 15 September 1918.
