William Scholfield entered the war in France on 2 February 1915 with the 2nd Battalion, Manchester Regiment. Not long after this he was wounded, suffering a gunshot to the chest on 20 April 1915, he was treated first by 14th Field Ambulance and passed on to No. 3 Casualty Clearing Station. Promoted Sergeant during the course of the war he transferred to the Class Z reserve on 9 February 1919; sold together with copied M.I.C.
