British War Medal 1914-20 (Capt. R. Northover.), very fine

R. Northover served in France with the Lancashire Fusiliers from 27 September 1914, although his rank of Captain is struck out and corrected with Lieutenant.

His exploits on 21 October 1914 are recalled in the Regimental History when going out to fill a gap in the line with three Platoons under his charge. One of the machine-guns in the action was carried into action by a Private John Lynn, who won himself a very fine Victoria Cross a few months later, also adding the D.C.M. and a Russian Cross of St George before being killed in action on 3 May 1915.
