Three: Petty Officer Air Fitter (Ordnance) J. P. Warner, Royal Navy, Fleet Air Arm

John Patrick Warner was born at Chatham, Kent on 15 October 1929, the son of Albert and Emily Warner. Enlisting as a Naval Airman (Ordnanceman) on 22 May 1947. Seeing service aboard H.M.S. Illustrious and H.MS. Implacable raising to the rank of Naval Air Mechanic (Ordnance) on 23 September 1949 before deployment to Korea. Joining H.M.S. Glory on 13 January 1951 he served aboard her for the duration of her war service until 8 July 1953, after he left Glory spent much of her time as a troop transport. Promoted Leading Aircraftman (Ordnance) on 30 September 1956 he was again serving afloat the next year aboard H.M.S. Eagle from 25 February-29 September 1957. After another tour on the aging Second World War Carrier H.M.S. Victorious from 15 August 1960-8 June 1962 he was promoted Pilot Officer, Air Mechanic on 30 September 1962. Later re-specialising as Pilot Officer Air Fitter, although remaining with Ordnance, on 26 November 1962 he saw one final tour at sea with H.M.S. Ark Royal between 1 June 1964-7 December 1966. Scheduled for discharge while at H.M.S. Heron Warner's commander had this final report to make upon his character:

'Petty Officer Warner is an intelligent and mature rating who has produced satisfactory results throughout his service. Punctual, reliable and methodical, with a mature manner which has had a steadying influence on those who have worked under him. Warner has had considerable experience of handling explosives and a variety of armaments.'

Transferring on final time to H.M.S. Drake on 11 September 1969 he was officially pensioned on 14 October. Warner had already moved on, having completed a course of Heating and Ventilating Fitting on 22 September 1969 at Plymouth from which he received a favourable report; sold together with the recipient's original certificate of service in its slip of issue, final report on discharge and trainee's placing report as well as copied service records and medal roll.
