James Frederick Hicks, son of Frederick and Louisa Hicks of 23 Peas Hill, March, Cambridgeshire, served in France with the 1st Battalion, Cambridgeshire Regiment from 14 February 1915. He was aged just 17 and serving with 'D' Company on 7 July 1915 when he was killed in action, being buried in the Houplines Cemetery. His parents had the following engraved onto his CWGC gravestone:
'SORROW SHALL FLEE AWAY'
