Henry John Goodwin was born at Norwich on 27 September 1898 and was a coachbuilder's apprentice upon joining the Royal Navy. He served aboard Canada from 10 August 1915-8 March 1917, which would have seen him serve aboard her for the Battle of Jutland, 31 May 1916. He joined Radstock on 24 December 1917 and having been discharged went on to see further service with the Royal Australian Navy in the 1920s.
