Harold Freeman Blyfield was born on 5 July 1894 at Charlton and joined the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve in 1912. Upon the outbreak of the Great War he served with the Collingwood Battalion, Royal Naval Division at Antwerp and was taken Prisoner of War on 8 October 1914, being interned in Holland.
