Pair: Private F. Mousley, Royal Warwickshire Regiment
Queen's South Africa 1899-1902, 5 clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Johannesburg, Diamond Hill, Belfast (3855 Pte F. Mousley, Rl. Warwick: Regt M.I.); King's South Africa 1901-02, 2 clasps (3855 Pte F. Mousley. Rl: Warwick: Regt), about extremely fine (2)
Frederick William Mousley attested for the Royal Warwickshire Regiment in March 1893 at the age of 18, having previous service in the ranks of the 4th (Militia) battalion of the same regiment. Prior to South Africa, he served on the Nile Expedition of 1898 (Medal & clasp for Omdurman) and was later wounded in action at Britstown (Birmingham Daily Post, 13 March 1900, refers), scene of a small but sharp fight which saw British troops under a Colonel Adye assault a series of hills, but who was forced to withdraw after taking a number of casualties - Mousley amongst them. However, his wound was clearly not too serious as he was not invalided home; instead returning in August 1902 and taking his discharge March 1905; sold together with copied Attestation Papers and a small amount of research.
