British War 1914-20 (2749 Sjt. J. F. Galsworthy. 2-Lond. R.), in named and addressed O.H.M.S. box of issue, good very fine
John Ford Galsworthy was born at Appledore, Devon in 1895, the son of Arthur and Harriet Galsworthy. Prior to the Great War he went into education, being listed on the 1911 census as Training-For-A-Teacher. Enlisting as a member of the Territorial Force on 12 September 1914 with 2nd Battalion, London Regiment he was embodied on the same day and appointed a Lance Corporal on 19 September. Further advanced Sergeant on 8 October 1914 he was posted to Malta on 23 December 1914 until 4 February 1915. Attached to the Territorial Force Records Office on 16 October 1915 he continued to serve here for some time. Finally declared exempt from service and returned to the Reserve on 14 May 1917. Galsworthy lived until 19 December 1956 when he died at Eton, Buckinghamshire. His brother Lieutenant Edgar Galsworthy (medals sold in these rooms) died on 27 September 1918 while serving with the Tank Corps. Confirmed as sole entitlement.
