William Nash was born in 1893 at Penmark, Barry. Serving with the 13th Battalion, Welsh Regiment and later 15th Battalion throughout the war. Nash's pension documents describe him as suffering from Malaria as a result of his service and state that at some stage he was exposed to the effects of gas. The London Gazette entry relating to his award of the Croix de Guerre has not been located. Later he lived at 60 High Street, Barry and worked for British Railways, dying while on duty as a Driver at the Barry Locomotive Sheds on 17 October 1956; sold together with handwritten research and death certificate as well as copied research including M.I.C., pension records and British Railways record of service along with a presentation watch 'presented by the children of St. Helen's School'.
