Sidney Oliad Dent was born at Wiggenhall St Germans, Norfolk in January 1885, the son of Thirza Dent. Marrying Rosanna Reed on 11 October 1908 he was, by 1911, working as a Cotton Mill Porter and living with his wife and son at East Place, Kings Lynn. Enlisting on 14 December 1914 at Norwich with the 3rd Battalion, Norfolk Regiment before transferring to the Border Regiment. Entering the war in France on 30 December 1915 he was posted as missing on 5 July 1916 during the Somme Offensive and was declared 'presumed dead'. Dent is commemorated upon the Thiepval Memorial; sold together with copied M.I.C., Commonwealth War Graves details and original letters of presentation for the recipient's campaign medals.
