Four: Private A. Jolley, 2nd Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment, a former Railway Employee who was killed in action at the Battle of Aubers Ridge on 9 May 1915, an action in which a Battalion Comrade, Corporal Charles Sharpe, was awarded the Victoria Cross

Arthur Jolley was born at Eckington, Derbyshire in 1877. Working as a Platelayer for the Great Central Railway in the Pillerton Engineer's Department prior to the war he originally enlisted with the Leicestershire Regiment but entered the war in France on 26 March 1915 with the 2nd Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Present with them for the Battle of Aubers Ridge on 9 May 1915, it was here that another of his Battalion, Corporal Charles Richard Sharpe won the Victoria Cross, advancing at the head of his men to take several stretches of German trench line practically single handed. Jolley was killed in the fighting on 9 May 1915 and is commemorated upon the Ploegstreert Memorial. He was survived by his brother Thomas Jolley of 17 Grin Row, Ladmanlow, Buxton, Derbyshire; sold together with copied research including M.I.C., Commonwealth War Graves details and handwritten research relating to his service.
