Evan Edward Hughes was born at Llwyngwril, Merioneth in 1894, the son of Mary Williams, 4 Cader Road, Dolgelley, Merioneth. He enlisted with the Territorials in 1910 and was embodied with the Royal Welsh Fusiliers on the outbreak of the Great War. Hughes entered the war at Gallipoli on 8 August 1915 where the Battalion took part in the Suvla Bay Landings and the later attempts to push inland towards Scimitar Hill. Hughes was killed in action during this latter engagement on 10 August 1915. He is commemorated upon the Helles Memorial; sold together with copied research including M.I.C. and Commonwealth War Graves details.
