Three: Private J. C. Barson, 3rd Battalion, Grenadier Guards, a pre-war regular who tragically died on 20 February 1919 - a victim of the Spanish Flu epidemic

Joseph Claude Barson who went by Claude, was born at St. Thomas's, Nottingham in 1889. Enlisting on 5 June 1907 with the Grenadier Guards he was married to Ivy Irene Barson on 4 August 1913 at Nottingham. He served during the Great War in France from 26 July 1915, Barson served with 3rd Battalion throughout the conflict seeing service at Loos, the Somme, Ypres and Cambrai. He was admitted to Hospital with mild Influenza on 14 February 1919 and died of Bronchitis on 20 February. He is buried at Dunkirk Town Cemetery; sold together with a photograph negative (undeveloped), two photographs of the recipient's grave, as well as copied research including Service Records, Commonwealth War Graves details and M.I.C.
