Herbert Chant was born at Malvern Link, Worcestershire. Enlisting at Bridgenorth, Shropshire he served first with the 1st Battalion, Hereford Regiment with the Service Number 4569 before transferring to the 3rd Battalion, King's Own Shropshire Light Infantry. Finally he served with the 11th Battalion, Border Regiment being killed in action with this unit on 12 January 1917. He is buried in the Euston Road Cemetery; sold together with copied research.
