Joseph Charles Brain was born at St. Martin's Birmingham in 1899, the son of Joseph Brain of 4 Chandos Street, Bedford. Enlisting at Birmingham with the Royal Warwickshire Regiment in 1914 he entered the war in France on 15 July 1915. Forced to return home (having been discovered to be underage) he later joined-up yet again, fighting in both France and Italy. Brain was listed as missing presumed dead during the Battle of the Lys on 13 April 1918 and is commemorated upon the Ploegstreert Memorial; sold together with copied research including M.I.C., typed research and Commonwealth War Graves details.
