The 6th Battalion K.O.S.B. suffered heavy casualties at the Battle of Loos in September 1915, and later fought on the Somme. In August 1916 they were at Vimy Ridge. In April 1917 they attacked at Arras and in September returned to Ypres where they assaulted the infamous Zonnebeke redoubt. Private Donaldson is additionally entitled to a 1914-15 Star and Memorial Plaque, and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
