Arthur Lewis was born at Merthyr Dovan, Glamorgan in 1896 and enlisted at Bridgend with the 3rd Battalion, Glamorgan Yeomanry on 21 October 1915. Serving in France from 4 August 1916 he was transferred to the 14th Battalion, Welsh Regiment (No. 57045) on 1 September 1916. Lewis was present during the recapture of Delville Wood by 38th (Welsh) Infantry Division, when he was killed in action on 27 August 1918. He is commemorated upon the Vis-En-Artois Memorial and the Barry County School Memorial; sold together with a typed biographical note.
