The Victory Medal and Flying Log Book awarded to Lieutenant C. F. Smith, Royal Air Force, late Liverpool Regiment
Victory Medal (Lieut. C. F. Smith. R.A.F.),
Charles Frederick Smith served in the ranks (No. 1360) of the 6th Battalion, King's (Liverpool) Regiment and served in France from 24 February 1915 (1915 Star), before being commissioned from the ranks and thence joining the Royal Air Force. His Log Book begins with an entry on 5 August 1916. He went out to France and by May 1917 was flying with No. 66 Squadron, but on 26 May having 'dived on 6 Hun scouts' he 'could not get away so was force to land' and was thence taken Prisoner of War. Smith had completed some 73 hours 40 minutes War Flying at the time and was repatriated on 14 December 1918; sold together with his Flying Log Book, which has its final entry on 2 September 1919, photograph of the recipient and copied Service Record.
