Victory Medal 1914-19 (290029 Sjt. H. G. Maycock. Welsh R.), very fine
Henry George Maycock was born at Chiswick, London in 13 June 1893, the son of Thomas and Agnes Maycock of 1 Evelyn Street, Barry. Educated at the County Council School, Beckton Road he later joined the Territorial Army in 1910. Mobilised in August 1914 he transferred to the 7th Battalion, Royal Welsh Fusiliers and served for some time as a Sergeant Instructor at Hartlepool and later Durham. He served in France with 'C' Company, 2nd Battalion, Royal Welsh Fusiliers in June 1917. Maycock was killed during an attack on Polygon Wood on 26 September 1917, being commemorated upon the Tyne Cot Memorial and Barry Memorial Hall; sold together with a typed biographical note.
