Provenance
'A Distinguished Collection', purchased en bloc via Spink, August 2018

Intriguingly this die combination is also known for the extremely rare 1692 QVINTO issues (cf. Spink 22005, 4 May 2022, lot 113), thereby tying, rather unsurprisingly, the striking of these coins around the 12 February 1692, the date by which the fourth regnal year (QVARTO) ended, and the fifth regnal year (QVINTO) began. Given the degradation of the die and breaking of letters like the top curl of R in REX appearing on both issues, logic would dictate the emission of these coins within weeks of this date and likely around the kalendae of February.
