The St. Albans Collection of English Gold Coins | NGC AU Details | George I (1714-1727), Guinea, 1716, third laureate head right, no hair below truncation, rev. small S in S R I A, crowned shields cruciform, eight strings to harp, seven hearts, emblem-adorned sceptres in angles, edge obliquely milled, 8.36g, 5h (MCE 248; Farey 600; EGC 505; Spink 3630), lightly wiped with subtle smoothing in third quarter of reverse, a scarcely perceptible rim bruise at reverse 2 o'clock, otherwise residually lustrous especially so in recesses, struck details a pleasingly bold very fine, rare thus and not to be mistaken for the more frequently encountered fourth bust issue, with NGC 'St Albans' Certification, graded AU Details ~ Cleaned (#6295553-033)
