1929 (18 Dec.) S.S. "Fort Victoria" was leaving New York harbour when rammed by American steamer "Algonuin" in thick fog off Sandy Hook whilst she was stopped to land the pilot, envelope (stamp floated off) to Bermuda bearing, on reverse, "This article (damaged by water) is part of the contents of the mail sack for Bermuda on board the S.S. Fort Victoria, which vessel, in a dense fog, was rammed by the S.S. Algonquin and sank in New York harbor December 18, 1829." label (Type 1 with short dash between "29" and "3000"). Photo
