1841 (13 Aug) the 'Victoria and Albert' first type envelope with side panels lettered "V" and "A" at right (not seriffed type) addressed to Dumfries bearing 1841 1d. red-brown plate 8, QB (four margins) tied by neat Maltese Cross in black, the reverse with faint strikes of Edinburgh c.d.s. (13.8) and Dumfries boxed datestamp for the following day; some peripheral repairs and thinning not detracting from the appearance. A very rare envelope being with one of just six recorded. R.P.S.
