IACOBVS D : G : MA | BRI : FR : ET HIB : REX •, BRI : FR : ET over G FR ET in error, King seated on throne decorated with semée of thistles, holding orb and sceptre, Portcullis below which along with throne breaks inner beaded circle, rev. (m.m.) A DNO: FACTVM ESTISTVD ET EST MIRAB: IN OC: NRIS •, square-topped Royal shield set on cross fluery, XXX above, encircled by 'Garter' band of alternating lis, lions and roses, 12.20g [188.2grns], 4h, m.m. thistle over spur rowel [both sides] (Bruun 681 same dies; Clarke-Thornhill 126 same dies; Lingford 1048 same dies; Lockett 2113 same dies; Platt-Hall 105 same dies; Schneider II, 77 this m.m. not listed, but same dies (pre alteration); North 2108; Spink 2632), a minute striking split by H of HIB, flatness above X of REX, and a trace of striking weakness by right foot and in corresponding area of reverse, otherwise a thoroughly pleasing example, lustrous and lightly toned on a full round flan, a really good very fine / almost extremely fine, scarce
