(m.m.) • EXVRGAT • DEVS • DISSIPENTVR • INIMICI •, crowned square-topped and garnished shield, dividing I-R, 11.05g [170.8grns], 4h, m.m. thistle (Montagu -; Murdoch -; Bliss -; Raynes -; Ryan -; Lingford 874 same reverse die; Lockett 3311 same obverse die; cf. Schneider II, 2; North 2066; Spink 2609), some cabinet friction behind bust, otherwise a broad and uniform striking on a full flan, residually lustrous and toned, extremely fine, and excessively rare, the second 'damascened' bust seldom if ever encountered at auction, only four traced with the thistle mintmark
