(x) Five: Captain E. R. Newbigging, Scots Guards and East African Forces

Eric Robert Newbigging was born at Gibraltar on 18 February 1899, son of Lieutenant-General Newbigging and grandson of Lieutenant-Colonel Newbigging. He was educated at Charterhouse and during the Great War he served in France with the Scots Guards from 27 December 1917, joining the 2nd Battalion. Wounded on 30 August & 28 September 1918, he returned to his unit in Cologne on 29 December 1918. He went out to East Africa and was listed as working at the Dalhousie Estate, Limuru. Clearly having seen action during the Second World War, he died in the Cape on 5 August 1978.
