Reginald Lewis was born in 1884 and his parents lived at 27 Fore Street, Lostwithiel, Cornwall. Having left his native Cornwall, he worked for the Post Office from 1899. It is no surprise Lewis served in France with the 8th (City of London) Battalion, London Regiment (Post Office Rifles) from 25 October 1916-7 February 1917 and thence from 12 June-13 December 1917, when he died of wounds probably suffered in the Battle of St Quentin. He is buried in the St Sever Extension Rouen, being further commemorated upon the Lostwithiel Memorial, which his father attended the opening of. His parents added the following inscription to his gravestone:

'TO DEAR REG. AS LONG AS LIFE & MEMORY LAST WE WILL REMEMBER THEE.'
