The China Medal awarded to Corporal A. R. Trowell, Royal Welch Fusiliers, who was severely wounded at Tientsin Railway Station on 11 July 1900

Amos Rayment Trowell was born in 1877 at Doddington, Northamptonshire and was a seaman upon his enlistment on 1 July 1896. Promoted Corporal on 17 June 1900 and Lance-Sergeant on 2 August 1902, he was reduced to Private by General Court Martial in December that year. Having been present during the occupation of Crete, Trowell was severely wounded in both thighs by gunshot at Tientsin Railway Station on 11 July 1900. This wound is confirmed in the Daily Telegraph & Courier of 4 August 1900.

Discharged to the Reserve on 27 March 1903, he married Florence Emily Westwood in 1904 and was released on 30 June 1912.
