The Sutlej Medal awarded to Serjeant W. Norris, 10th (North Lincolnshire) Regiment, who was wounded in action at the Battle of Sobraon, 10 February 1846

William Hall Norris was born at Primroy, County Tyrone in 1809 and was a weaver by trade upon his enlistment in the 58th Regiment at Armagh on 31 December 1829. Promoted Corporal on 1 January 1835, he was held prisoner and reduced to Private on 2 August 1837, being transferred as a Corporal to the 10th Regiment on 1 April 1842. Advanced Sergeant on 1 July 1844, he suffered a gunshot wound to the left arm at the Battle of Sobraon.

On that famous day, the men of his unit and that of the 29th Regiment of Foot was cemented when they met in the captured Sikh trenches. To this day Officers and Sergeants of both regiments address each other as 'My Dear Cousin'.

Norris was discharged 'unfit' on 6 June 1857; sold together with copied Service Record.
