Great Britain: North of Scotland & Orkney & Shetland Steam Navigation Co., certificate for [34] shares, 18[82], #61, paddle steamer in centre, anchor in scrollwork at left, black. Formed in Aberdeen in 1875 as a merger of several older shipping companies. They operated most of the ferries to Shetland and Orkney and operated Norwegian cruise ships starting in 1886. These very successful routes were reduced in 1908 due to increased competition but the company continued ferry service throughout the 20th century until its reformation in 1953. Taken over by Coast Lines in 1961 and renamed P&O Ferries (Orkney & Shetland) in 1975. GVF and rare. NO RESERVE
