Sikh Rulers of Patiala, Narinda Singh (1845-62), Rupee, 11.06g, Patiala, VS 1902 (1845), struck in the name of Ahmad Shah Durrani, date in central section of text, with cross below (KM Y# 1), dark toning, very fine
Narinda Singh was the son of Karam Singh and also helped the British with supplies and transport during the first Anglo-Sikh war. He was rewarded with additional estates, especially in Nabha. After the annexation of the Sikh state of Lahore to the British in 1849 he was regarded as a spokesman for the Sikh community, and again supported them in the uprising of 1857.
Among other honours, he was awarded the Star of India in 1861, and made a member of the Viceroy's legislative Council in 1862.
