Sahib Singh was the son of Amar Singh, but came to the throne while still a child. Diwan Nanu Mall managed the affairs of the state while he was in his minority, aided by his grandmother and aunt. Even when he assumed control of the state, his sister, Sahib Kaur, guided his hand. Her strong leadership saved the state from the Marathas in 1794. After she died the real power devolved to his second wife, Rani As Kaur.
