Cis Sutlej States, Jind, Bhag Singh (1789-1819), Rupee, 10.97g, mint name off flan, undated, struck in the name of Ahmad Shah Durrani, small sprig to left of symbol in loop of s of julus, and flower further left (KM 3), with natural edge irregularities, but a superb example for type, extremely fine

Bhag Sing inherited the throne at a difficult time, but he formed alliances with his brother, chief of the Cis-Sutlej area, and the Marathas, He was also the first of the Cis-Sutlej princes to seek an alliance with the British. In 1803 he assisted Lord Lake against the Marathas and was endowed with Gohana estate in return. Unfortunately he became incapacitated in 1813, and his son Fateh Singh, became his agent.
Bhag Singh's mint first used dies borrowed from Patiala. A distinguishing feature is the way the word "bar" is engraved in the Durrani couplet.
