A 1945 Burma M.C. group of five attributed to Captain D. Mitchell, Royal Army Medical Corps, attached 6th Medium Regiment, Royal Artillery

Military Cross, G.VI.R., reverse officially dated '1945', with its Royal Mint case of issue; 1939-45 Star; Burma Star; Defence and War Medals, mounted court-style for wear, good very fine (5)

M.C. London Gazette 8 February 1945. The original recommendation states:

'During the period Jan-April when the 6 Medium Regiment was in 7 Indian Division, East Mayu, Arakan, this Officer performed all duties expected from him in an exemplary manner. Particularly during the period 6 Feb - 23 March in the Admin Box was this devotion to duty marked. He established his Regimental Aid Post within the perimeter of the East Ngakyedauk Pass Garrison on the evening of 6 February 1944.

He showed consistently throughout the period, during which the Garrison was in close contact with the enemy, the highest sense of duty and a noble example of gallantry.

His Regimental Aid Post was continually sniped, shelled and bombed, and Captain Mitchell attended to his duties with the utmost zeal, going about on occasions to visit the wounded who could not readily be brought to him during periods of enemy attack.

His example had endeared him to all rank in contact with him and he has proved himself a man of great courage and a stout-hearted Officer worthy of his calling.

Duncan Mitchell was a native of Marino, County Down, who after the Second World War made his home in Harlow Essex; sold together with a letter written by Mitchell, dated 22 January 1980 to the MOD Medal Office enquiring about having his Second World War Campaign Medals issued and requesting a copy of the Citation for the M.C., the copy of which on M.O.D. letterhead is also included with the Lot.
