Great War Bronze Memorial Plaque (Herbert William Davies), good very fine

Herbert William Davies was born at Brecon, Wales and emigrated to South Africa, serving for two years in the Natal Carbineers. He enlisted for service during the Great War at Pretoria in February 1916 and served some 16 months in German East Africa with the South African Service Corps supplies. Returned to South Africa, he was transferred to the Recruiting Staff and was thence posted as Sergeant-Major of the Veteran Reserve Regiment in May 1917. Being on duty continuously after that date, he was noted as suffering from 'overstrain' and fainted after taking a bath on 17 January 1918. Commissioned Lieutenant, Davies died on 21 December 1919 and is buried in the Johannesburg (Brixton) Cemetery; sold together with copied research.
