(Civil) Member’s 1st type Badge, silver, hallmarks for London 1919; Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 5 clasps, Defence of Ladysmith, Laing’s Nek, Belfast, Orange Free State, Cape Colony (15514 S-Sejt. H. Jordan, A.S.C.), clasps mounted in that order, unofficial rivets between clasps three and four; King’s South Africa 1901-02, 2 clasps, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902 (5514 S.Q.M. Sjt. H. J Jordan. A.S.C.), minor official correction to rank; British War Medal 1914-20 (Captain H. J. Jordan, M.B.E., Union D. Forces), renamed; Army L.S.& G.C., E.VII.R. (155114 S.S. Mjr: H. J. Jordan. A.S.C.), mounted as worn, pin removed, good very fine (5)
Chief Clerk to Major-General Sir Francis Howard, 8th Brigade, Natal Field Force from October 1899-November 1900. During the Defence of Ladysmith was in the Staff Clerk Section.
M.I.D. London Gazette 8 February and 10 September 1901. Later attached to Army Veterinary Department.
M.B.E. London Gazette 19 December 1918:
'For valuable services rendered within the Union of South Africa in connection with the campaigns in German South-West Africa and German East Africa.’
Recommendation states:
'1st Grade Clerk, Department of Defence. Has rendered excellent and constant service in the General Staff Section since the commencement of the War.’
M.I.D. London Gazette 22 August 1918. The recommendation states:
‘For consistent good work and devotion to duty from the outbreak of the campaign. The control of all routine work of the General Staff Section had to be handed over by me to someone else during the period in question and this I entrusted to Captain Jordan, the results of which were satisfactory in every way.’
