Queen's South Africa 1899-1902, 4 clasps, Cape Colony, Tugela Heights, Orange Free State, Relief of Ladysmith (3370 Pte. B. Feeney, 1st Connaught Rang:), nearly extremely fine

Bernard Feeney, a native of Dublin, was born in 1870 and joined the Connaught Rangers on 15 January 1889. Serving the Relief of Ladysmith campaign he was wounded 23 February 1900 at Hart's Hill in the ferocious fighting on the Tugela Heights that led to the relief of Ladysmith, Gazetteer refers:

'Towards evening (23rd) Hart decided to attempt the hill with the 1st The Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers and the 1st The Connaught Rangers, but because of determined resistance from the Krugersdorp commando entrenched on the top of the hill, he also ordered the 1st Royal Dublin Fusiliers into the attack. Unable to take the hill, Hart's brigade sheltered for the night on the lower slopes and in the morning was forced to withdraw below the railway line, a position it held for the next 24 hours having suffered severe casualties.'

For rescuing a man under heavy fire on 24 February, Lieutenant E.T. Inkson, Royal Army Medical Corps was awarded the Victoria Cross. Feeney was discharged on 14 January 1902.
