British War and Victory Medals (156735 Gnr. H. S. Parkes. R.A.), sometime cleaned, good very fine (2)

Henry Stratford Parkes enlisted at Stratford on 8 February 1916 but was posted to the Reserve on 16 April 1916 before rejoining on 20 April 1917. He served in France from 25 September 1917 but only served here for a month before re-embarking. Parkes re-entered the conflict at Salonica on 17 May 1918 becoming a Signaller on 11 July that year. He served with a number of units over that time including 445 Siege Battery, 130 Siege Battery and 150 Siege Battery. Posted from Salonica to Constantinople on 30 June, remaining there until 17 December 1919. He was transferred to the Reserve on 27 February 1920, returning to his home on Venue Street, London. Parkes was married not long after the war (30 January 1921) at St Barnards, Bethnal Green to Lilly Victoria Spencer; sold together with handwritten notes, service and census records.
