Africa General Service 1902-56, E.VII.R., 1 clasp, Somaliland 1908-10 (220091 G.R. Wight, A.B. H.M.S. Hyacinth:), light contact marks and polished, nearly very fine

George Robert Wight, a Piano Key Layer by trade upon enlistment, was born in Kentish Town on 13 January 1886. Attesting for the Royal Navy upon his 18th birthday, he served aboard the Highflyer-class Protected Cruiser Hyacinth for the operations in Somaliland and subsequently throughout the Great War on a number of vessels.Appointed a Petty Officer in 1917 and with his conduct rated Very Good or, on occasion, Superior, he left the Royal Navy in 1922. However, he returned to the fold for service during the Second World War with appointments to HMS Drake and Raleigh, shore establishments involved in training R.N. personnel to this day.
