1937 Wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor
Eight photographs showing the Duke and Duchess and their guests at the Chateau de Cande on 3 June 1937 where they celebrated their marriage. Two interior images show the improvised altar and seats set out in the library and the floral arrangement by Constance Spry. The group photographs show the loyal circle of friends who attended the ceremony, including Wallis Simpson's Aunt Bessie Merryman, Rev Jardine, Fruity Metcalfe, Randolph Churchill, Dudley Forwood, Herman and Kathleen Rogers, with three photographs (one duplicated) of the Duchess of Windsor with Mrs Fern Bedaux, whose husband Charles owned the Chateau de Cande. All 132x85 mm, aside from an image of Wallis and Fern Bedaux leaning over the famous balcony that is 175x175mm, with an imprint on the reverse of "Photo-Babnigg/ Berchtesgaden". The Bedeaux had a home there and it was Charles Bedaux who arranged the visit of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor to tour Germany and meet Hitler.
A rare group of original photographs ex the estate of Mrs Fern Bedaux.
