Great Britain
Antarctic Expeditions
1909 (28 April) ALS on Central Assembly Library headed letter paper from Malcolm Ross to Dame Nellie Melba. Letter reads:

"This is the stamp from the farthest South Post Office in the world. It was given to me by my friend Lieutenant Shackleton, whose recent expedition is the finest thing ever done in polar exploration. The stamp, apart from its value - which will be pretty considerable - has therefore a double interest. Tell your little relative not to be tempted to sell it. The issue is a special one and very limited."

Affixed to the letter is a used example of the 1908 Antarctic Expedition issue 1d. rose-carmine S.G. A1.

Offered together with original mourning envelope addressed to Madame Melba in New York bearing Australian perforated Officials 1d. and 2d. Both letter and envelope with small faults, nevertheless a charming letter.
