1845 (18 May) entire letter to London marked "Via Sydney" and "registered", bears a good strike of the boxed "paid at/wellington" in red and with rate marks of "2/-" and "4" and a good strike of the London wide crown/"registered", the reverse with a light strike of oval "wellington/new zealand" datestamp and London arrival (2.11). A clean and fine letter which is the earliest known item of registered mail from New Zealand to the U.K.

4d. paid by the sender, 2/- for postage (1/- and registration 1/- paid by the recipient). New Zealand did not have a charge for registration at this time
